About Me
Since graduating from Kalamazoo College in 2016, I’ve helped public sector and non-profit organizations expand their reach and better serve their communities.
Through my work, I’ve seen how websites affect the material conditions of everyday folks. Accessible, intuitive websites can narrow inequities, keep families in their homes, and save lives. I’ve also seen the obstacles faced by local governments when trying to meet the growing digital needs of their citizens.
It is my mission to help these groups build simple, accessible, human-centered websites.
Work Experience
Oakland County, Michigan Government
Website Specialist
Jan. 2017 – Present
Enterprise Administration
I am the enterprise administrator for a wide variety of community outreach tools, including GovAccess, FormAssembly, Qualtrics, GovDelivery, and WordPress.
In this role, I act as the liaison between the county’s departments and the software vendors. I am also responsible for onboarding new administrators, developing county-specific training materials, and troubleshooting when department-level admins need help.
Information Architecture
An organization’s digital services are only useful if people can reach them. I work with 50+ partner agencies to help them untangle, simplify, and refine their site structures. This includes conducting tabletop card exercises, listening sessions, analytics reviews, and user testing.
User Interface (UI) Design
I am currently working with my colleagues to develop a unified UI for county applications and site components. My involvement spans from project planning, to initial design (Figma) and final implementation (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
Accessibility Audits
I assist Oakland County’s departments with accessibility compliance. I also regularly review Oakland County’s website for WCAG 2.2 AA conformance.
Custom Website Requests
When needed, I have helped our partner agencies develop standalone websites for specific county initiatives.
At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I built the “Oakland County Vaccine Hub” for Oakland County’s Health Division. This website allowed the public to view and schedule Covid-19 vaccination appointments, access useful information about vaccine efficacy, and see our progress through a dynamic dashboard displaying vaccination rates by age group and municipality.
Earlier this year, I designed, coded, and launched a new site template for the Oakland County Blog. More recently, I worked with the Health Division to launch Phase 1 of a new community health website called the Oakland 360 Care Center.
